Mentor Patricia Murphy

Expertise: Commissioned work in the public sphere, percent for art commissions: preparing applications, health and safety considerations, concept presentation, project management, communication, installation. Working with architects, public bodies and commissioners. Sourcing and working with sub contractors.

Personal Summary:

Patricia Murphy has been working as an artist and designer in the area of textiles, paintings and mixed media for over 20 years. Patricia is a graduate of NCAD and her work has been exhibited internationally. She knows the Craft Sector and is a member of DCCOI’s Portfolio . She has significant experience in working on public commissions working with Government Departments, The OPW, City and County Councils, Health and Educational Institutions, corporate clients,developers and architects. These commissions have been awarded through both the open and closed competitive process for Percent for Art schemes as well as being approached directly by the commissioner. Successful commissions require open and excellent communications and relationships with both the client team and sub contractors and installers. A professional approach, inspiring client confidence, planning,project management and performance evaluation are as important as creative ideas and design and craft skills. Patricia has excellent communication skills, knows what is needed  and has a desire to help craft and design enterprises to further their business in this exciting, lucrative and growing sector

Mentoring Experience:

I have significant experience dating back to 1994 in working on both Mixed media and Textile Commissions throughout Ireland working with Government Departments, The OPW, City and County Councils and Corporate , Health and Educational Institutions, developers and Architects. Mentoring Roles
I was a lecturer and tutor in School of Art and Design, Dublin Institute of Technology, working part time for 20 years. I have worked as a facilitator in many workshops as well as on Public Commissions with a high level of Community Engagement. In my studio I have worked intensively on a one to one basis with students. My point is that I have excellent communication skills, am good at listening, know what needed  and have a desire to help craft and design enterprises to further their business in this exciting, lucrative and growing sector.
