Mentor Nick Marchant

Expertise: Product design, innovation capabilities, prototyping and production. 

Personal Summary:

1996 – Present: Independent practice as a product design consultant, working from origination of design concepts through to full CAD production documentation, prototyping and management of production start-up.

1986-96: Design Director, Satherley Design, London – high technology product design and strategic design consultancy.

1974-86: Head of Design and Assistant Chief Executive, Kilkenny Design Workshops, Ireland. Planned and established services in product design, furniture design, graphic design and packaging.


Mentoring Experience:

Director, Crafts Council of Ireland (1979-86) – in this role, I did much in the practical promotion of the work of Irish crafts people and in mentoring in professional practice

Director, Irish Quality Control Association (1979-86)

Head of Design and former roles, Kilkenny Design Workshops (1974-86)

Part-time tutor/mentor to BA, BSc, MA and MSc students at several universities. Currently responsible for design and delivery of professional design studio modules for MSc students in Integrated Product Design at Brunel University

Overseas Development: Mentoring of companies and organisations in Montserrat, West Indies (textile industries) and Kathmandu Valley, Nepal (crafts)

 

Qualifications:

MDesRCA – Master’s degree in Industrial Design (Engineering), Royal College of Art, London

Dip.A.D.(Hons) 1.1 Honours Degree in 3D Design with Special Commendations, Leicester
