Lorraine is passionate about entrepreneurship and all issues affecting the ability of creative people to build sustainable and rewarding creative practices. Lorraine is an experienced entrepreneur who started her first business, a textile design and manufacturing company, in 1994. Through managing that business for 11 years Lorraine learned, first hand, the day to day business and management issues related to running a creative micro enterprise in Ireland. The studio produced work for the fashion, gift and craft markets as well as for the corporate gift market. The work was exhibited widely at trade fairs in Ireland and the UK and was exported to Europe, the US and Japan. Her business experience also includes extensive collaborations with many leading designers and department stores. Lorraine has lectured in design and professional practice at NCAD, IADT, GIT, UU and BCFE.
Working extensively in the area of training and mentoring over the past number of years, Lorraine has supported many creative micro enterprises in starting businesses and managing change in their existing business. Lorraine has been a member of the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland's mentoring panel for many years and has completed many mentoring assignments and training sessions. Other mentoring client agencies include Offaly Local Enterprise Office and Chambers of Commerce in Dublin, Cork and Galway where Lorraine has provided mentoring services. Lorraine currently works with a number of clients, including QED Training, where she provides project managment, training and mentoring services, most recently managing the highly successful QED Momentum programme. This programme was designed to train and support 90 long term unemployed participants to assist them to start new businesses. Many of the participants were from within the creative sector. Lorraine provided mentoring to all 90 of these participants.
