David has broad experience working in design for print and web, with an emphasis on screen and identity projects since he co-founded the graphic design studio WorkGroup. The focus of the studioʼs work is to create useful, beautiful graphic design for print, screen and identity, which we do for a wide variety of clients. Recent awards include the IDI (Irish Design Institute) awards for Best Book and Best Website (2015). The studio’s work has been featured in national and international publications including Travel + Leisure, New York (2015), New York Times (2015), Wallpaper* (2014), Computer Arts (2013), Monocle (2012), The Irish Times (2013, 2012, 2010).
Since co-founding the graphic studio WorkGroup in 2006, David has been actively involved in mentoring, education, design community projects, and writing on design. In 2014 and 2015 he has given elective mentoring to final year students in the School of Architecture in the University of Limerick, and acted as a visiting tutor in the School of Product Design, NCAD. He has been a jury member for the ICAD Awards in the Digital category (2010), and a judge for the ISTD (International Society of Type Designers) Student Awards (2015/2016). David has taken visiting lecturing and tutorial positions in the Visual Communication courses of University of the West of England (Bristol), Limerick School of Art & Design, Athlone Institute of Technology, Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art Design & Technology, UCD School of Architecture, and DIT Mountjoy Square. He is external examiner to the Visual Communication course in LSAD for the graduating years 2014–2017.
David is a co-founder of the 100 Archive, a national archive of graphic design in Ireland. Since 2012 he has been on the Steering Committee, who have shaped the project and formulated its workings. He is resident design writer for Totally Dublin magazine and contributes to other publications.
